Your one-month learning plan

A milestone

Each week has five teaching days: 10 guided hours and 5 hours of independent practice. The last week includes project review and the final demonstration.

Week 1 · Days 15

Version control as a team

  • Repositories, commits and useful messages
  • Branches and pull requests
  • Resolve a small merge conflict
  • Use issues and a review checklist

A repository with a reviewed feature branch and clear history.

Week 2 · Days 610

Containers in practice

  • Images, containers and Dockerfiles
  • Build and run the sample application
  • Ports, environment variables and volumes
  • Inspect logs and stop containers

Automated checks

  • Workflow triggers, jobs and steps
  • Run existing tests in GitHub Actions
  • Check a container build
  • Keep credentials out of code and logs

Week 4 · Days 1620

Release and troubleshoot

  • Tag a project version
  • Practise a local release and rollback
  • Debug a broken configuration
  • Finish the operations README

Your final project

Repeatable release for a campus app

Take a supplied small application through a pull request, automated tests and a container build. Deliver a version tag and a local runbook that another student can follow. Kubernetes and production infrastructure are follow-on topics.

How learning is assessed

Repository history, container reproducibility, automated check evidence, and individual troubleshooting of a seeded configuration issue.

Students should explain their own decisions, show their work and document limitations. Any certificate conditions are agreed with the college before the batch begins.
