Each week has five teaching days: 10 guided hours and 5 hours of independent practice. The last week includes project review and the final demonstration.

Security and the web

  • Define lab scope and permission
  • Threats, assets and basic risk
  • HTTP, cookies and sessions
  • Passwords, MFA and phishing recognition

Understand common weaknesses

  • Explore selected OWASP risk categories
  • Inspect requests in a local lab
  • Observe input-handling mistakes
  • Recognise broken access control

Defend and verify

  • Server-side validation and output encoding
  • Permission checks and safe error messages
  • Inspect logs for suspicious activity
  • Review a supplied vulnerable code example

Report responsibly

  • Describe impact without exaggeration
  • Prioritise practical remediation
  • Retest fixes and record limitations
  • Present findings and clean up the lab

Your final project

Local training-app security review

Investigate three instructor-selected issues in a locally hosted practice application, record their impact and recommend fixes. All exercises stay within the provided lab; students do not test college systems or public websites.

How learning is assessed

Lab-scope adherence, quality of evidence, remediation reasoning and an individual explanation of one issue and retest.

Students should explain their own decisions, show their work and document limitations. Any certificate conditions are agreed with the college before the batch begins.
