A milestone
every week.
Each week has five teaching days: 10 guided hours and 5 hours of independent practice. The last week includes project review and the final demonstration.
Week 2 · Days 6–10
Model and persist
- Define a small entity and repository
- Use a local H2 database
- Create, read, update and delete records
- Separate controller and service concerns
Weekly deliverable
A working CRUD API using synthetic records.
Week 3 · Days 11–15
Validation and tests
- Validate request fields
- Return consistent errors and status codes
- Write service and controller checks
- Test missing records and duplicate input
Weekly deliverable
An API with documented validation and meaningful test cases.
Week 4 · Days 16–20
Finish the capstone
- Complete the agreed API contract
- Run a scripted request collection
- Document setup and sample requests
- Present design decisions and limitations
Weekly deliverable
A runnable API, request examples and test results.
Your final project
Library lending API prototype
Build a local API for books and simple lending records with validation and useful errors. Use synthetic data and a small schema. Production identity, payments and distributed microservices are outside the four-week scope.
How learning is assessed
API exercises, correctness of persistence and validation, test quality, and an individual walkthrough of a request through the code.
Students should explain their own decisions, show their work and document limitations. Any certificate conditions are agreed with the college before the batch begins.
